Couvillion Group’s Hurricane Katrina Recovery Support:

Couvillion Group was a key player in the vessel recovery effort in the lower half of Plaquemines Parish in the after math of Hurricane Katrina.  The levee system in the storm ravaged area was severely damaged and in need of major reconstruction. The largest problem was that there were large commercial fishing vessels scattered along the damaged levee system.  Couvillion Group sprung into action and devised a plan to remove the stranded vessels from the levee.  The contract was awarded through Shaw Group and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) for the removal of the grounded vessels.  Couvillion Group innovatively designed a lift system which could not only lift the 700 ton vessels, but could also transport the vessels across rough terrain.  The project’s scope of work also required that Couvillion Group utilize its pull barge to re-float and return the grounded vessels to the water.  The work was performed accident-free under the watchful eye of the Shaw Group, Corps Of Engineers and the USCG and completed before the estimated completion time.  Couvillion Group also salvaged over 300 vessels in the marshes and canals through Southern Louisiana.  Couvillion Group supplied and operated cranes, cranes barges and tugs during the recovery efforts.  Couvillion Group is proud to have played a major role in the rebuilding of the commercial fishing industry by applying swift and innovative ideas in the recovery work during post Katrina efforts.  The knowledge used and gained in the salvage efforts brings Couvillion Group to the forefront of the salvage industry.
